Promoting Pot

A UFCW boss would like for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to start peddling marijuana in its state-owned liquor stores. “Wendell Young IV, president of UFCW Local 1776, which represents about 3,500 state store workers, called selling marijuana at the shops ‘just a common-sense thing to do.’”

Striking for Nothing

Striking UFCW members at a hotel in Canada just agreed to end a five-month strike after gaining nothing. About 70% of employees supported accepting the final offer the hotel made last December. In spite of the strike, some union members chose to continue working.

“Poor Representation”

 Due to “poor representation,” the UFCW badly lost a decertification vote in California

Workers at Hiji Bros., Inc. and Seaview Growers Inc., both based in Oxnard, cast ballots to decertify and replace the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 5 with the UFW.

The vote came down to 111 for the UFW, 61 for UFCW Local 5 and 6 for no-union.

A petition to decertify the UFCW was filed with the farm labor board last week and signed by about 80 percent of the workers who complained about poor representation.
